I need your opinion on my hood

I need your opinion on my hood
A while back I asked the question about adding a hood scoop and received a resounding "No". Now the question is a bit different. Last year I noticed that there was some bubbling happening under the hood along the seams. By the end of the season it was starting to show on the leading edge of the hood. About three inches wide. Don't ask me why. It's an aluminum hood.
Now...if I'm going to repaint it I'd have to either get a new stripe kit installed or have the painter add "real ones". I talked with CPV, (they've done great work for me before.) They told me to do the hood/stripes and the fenders to complete the job would be about $1300. Not bad I suppose. But an alternative might be to skip the stripes, buy this hood on ebay and paint it black. (Probably the cheaper alternative.)
Take a look and tell me what you think is the better idea.

Tracedaddy, your hood has the TSB problem with Hood Corrosion (TSB 06-25-15). When our Mustangs were in the assembly line, some how the hood was contaminated causing bubbling or blistering of the paint especially along the seams under the hood.
I read about it last year and checked mine. Sure enough, I saw evidence where mine was starting to bubble so I took it in while it was still under warranty.

Damn. I knew I'd been away from this forum for too long. I had not heard about that. Thanks. (I guess it's nice to know I'm not alone anyway.) So are we talking about the corrosion warrranty? That's 100K right? Otherwise I'm long past. I think I'm at 65K.

I dont think warranty should matter as its not a defective part warranty, its an assembly/production major error that was noticed and the problems from it can arouse at different times or conditions. You have good ground to stand on and argue with dealer and even the manufacturer.

You can try the Corrosion warranty thing, you never know they may fix it under that clause.
It will definitely have to be sand blasted off and re-painted in an environment that will not cause the problem again.
They even gave me a rental while it was in the shop.

Well...Google is my friend. Based on what this says I can hold onto the hood and hope it rots through within 5 years or...I'm out of luck. I'll still call though. All they can do is say "No".
So....back to my question. Repaint with stripes at @1300 or buy a new (non-stock) hood and paint it black.
Corrosion Coverage
Under your New Vehicle Limited Warranty, Corrosion Coverage begins at the
warranty start date and covers body sheet metal panels against corrosion
due to a defect in factory-supplied materials or workmanship. Corrosion coverage
(which lasts for 5 years, regardless of miles driven) only applies if the
corrosion causes perforation (holes) in body sheet metal panels.
If corrosion does not cause perforation (holes), and is not the result of
usage and/or environmental conditions, paint damage is covered under
the terms of the Bumper to Bumper Warranty (3 years or 36,000 miles,
whichever occurs first).
For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) - where
there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty -
our policy is to cover paint damage due to airborne material for
12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

well, you could try the warranty, but i actually think that hood is pretty sick, it definatley does look really nice and different, i havent seen that one before, and 350 for a fiberglass hood is cheap, i paid 450 for mine, they then bumped it up to 500-550 the week after i bought it.

Tracedaddy, if I were you, I'd get a new hood. With the wording of the Corrosion Warranty, they expect to be able to poke a hole through the hood. Aluminum won't do that, it'll just keep eating away at the paint.
Check out this forum.....they mention it as well;

I think you're right.
Came across another option I forgot to mention.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
This wouldn't be a good option unless I left it unpainted because after painting I'd still have to spend the cash to get the stripes added. (I went through the effort to look non-stock so there is no reason to buy a new hood AND get it painted.)
I've had some people on another forum say that unpainted carbon fiber is "Sooo 2000". Another said it was rice. (I've never found a really accurate definition of the term rice.)
