I guess you guys have never ridden in a 9 second Supra.

I had the thrill once.

I drive a 4Runner as my daily and for work. Not exciting, but it gets the job done that my Mustang cant do. (carry tools, equipment, go over unpaved and badly paved roads, etc)

I do wish Toyota would bring back the Supra. I bet with today's technology they could make it a monster!

Look, going into the past makes for great fun and frolic, but is neither relevant nor a fair comparison. Yes, Toyota has made some fantastic vehicles in their time... MR2, Celica GT, Supra - hell, they even used to have a pretty fancy souped up Corolla, but that doesn't change the fact that they have engineered every single ounce of fun out of their entire current vehicle lineup (maaaaaaaaaybe save for trucks).

I defy you to find any vehicle Toyota currently manufactures that anybody has bothered to push 1000hp into.

Oh I agree completely, to the detriment of Toyota. They might do well to get back into the "hotrod" game.

On that note, Nissan sure has upped the ante with the GT-R though. Of course you'd have to knock over a bank to get one! (75-80K)

And sell your soul. I don't want a car knowing more about its own operation than I do. The thought is creepy. I don't want to have to ask it to open the pod bay doors. That's part of the reason I'm buying a manual. I'm fightin' the powah!

Oh yeah, sure, it comes in looking like that, but it goes out looking like this:

And that's most of their problem. Sources say the AE86 is not coming stateside in present form (read: see above).

^^^ That's funny. Let's not be so hard on Toyota. They have not been making cars for enthusiasts lately, but instead more for families. The Camry and Corolla are their top selling models in the US and there is a reason for it. They are reliable, affordable, and comfortable. I have read several comparisons where the Accord (same model years) had a harder more responsive ride than the mushy Camry ride but the Camry outsold it. The author of that one article even noted that the buying niche of the Camry is obviously happy with the design since the sales keep increasing not decreasing. I think they do a fairly good job marketing their products in this country considering they are an entire world away both physically and culturally. The Americans were never so smart. I bring to your attention the infamous Nova fiasco of years past. Chevy tried to sell the Nova in Mexico and the sales were flat. Couldn't sell a one. Why? Because "NO VA" in Spanish means "Won't Go". Who the heck is going to by a car named "NO GO"?

As far as the styling changes, yea you're right it probably wont look like that, but that is thanks to the US government regulations. It certainly wont wind up looking like a Corolla either. It will probably look something like the Nissan 360Z (or whatever number it has now).
