Superchargers and stock rear end????

Hey guys. I've always been advised since I got my car blown, that a rear end swap out would be a great idea. I have a Kenne Bell 2.6L, pushing 470RWHP, and this is the next mod that I think should get done. My rear end is stock, 3.73 gears. What will I gain performance/traction wise with this mod? Why is it needed? I plan to go with a 31 spline, probably order from americanmuscle.com Is this something I can do myself? Please tell me all the positives of doing this. If I have the shop do it, do I need to let them know I have 3.73 gears? Thanks guys!

How about something worthy, like forged internals if you don't already have them.

I don't yet, it is on the list. However the funds are not there at the moment. Yes, I could save for them ,and I will. The rear end mod is obviously alot cheaper, and something I can get done right away. Forged internals, I'm looking at a couple thousand bucks. I don't drag race, it is my daily driver. I'm more of a "red light bandit", and I definetly don't abuse my car, which is why I think the internals are safe for awhile....for now.

The rear end is safer than your bottom end.
If your not drag racing...running slicks that 8.8 should not be an issue.
I'd find a better place to spend some cash, for now.

373's why the change.

Are you asking me why the change to 3.73's? The car had it installed previously. There are multiple reasons to go to a 3.73, is that what you are asking?

The stock rear end will handle what your have plus more, upwards of 600rwhp+. 31 spline axles are stock.

If you already have 373's and a stock 8.8, you're good to go.
+1 on forging them internals...then up the boost!
What pulley size and psi are you pushing with the KB? I'll be putting a 2.6 KB on my forged v8 soon.

Like many others have said, stay with the rear. Not sure who told you that you need to upgrade it, but they're giving you a line of bull. The stock 8.8 is pretty stout and you should have no reason to upgrade at this point. Also, s197's come with 31 spline axles so you're not "upgading" by going to a 31 spline rearend. 3.73's should be more than fine since you're running a supercharger.

Save your money and rebuid the bottom end of your engine. That's where you need the upgrade.
