OP, I feel your pain. I had a brand new Firebird Formula 350 that came from factory without grease in rear driver;s side axle. Lost the wheel doing 55MPH on the way home with my shiny blue pride and joy. I had just picked it up from the dealer.....

It suxs but they will get you fixed up good as new.

Just got off the phone with the dealership...its going to be in the shop for 2-3 days at least. They are replacing the entire rear axle. One of the bearings got messed up and basically messed up the rear end. I'm picking up a rental tonight or tomorrow morning whenever a car is available.

Sucks man. Demand a loaner or demand they pick up the cost of the rental. Talk to the service manager.. I would.

They'll fix ya up...

Yeah...the rental is covered...they are going to reimburse me for it. Yeah I can't believe it either though...had to be a defective part from the start...oh well =/

Hopefully they put the right gear back in, and not a 2.73 or something!

Don't worry about it. Better off that it happened now anyway.

Thats actually the first thing I'm gonna check, since the dealership is on a highway. In 5th gear at 65mph, the RPM's hover right around 2000rpm, in 4th gear right around 40 at the same engine speed. Believe me, I WILL check that and make sure its right =)

But yeah, probably better that it happened now...still annoys me since I bought a brand new car to avoid this exact thing from happening (unexpected downtime for mechanical issues). I know its not gonna be bullet proof but i expected to hit at least 1000 miles before the car saw the inside of a shop... =P
