So the method described in the TSB didn't fix the problem?

TSB 8-2-10

Well in the TSB it calls for a new separator plate, I have read several people using tape or spaces to get rid of the noise. However I am concerned that creating a gap would cause a issue with the transmission? does it?

Honestly, I have little to no knowledge about the problem other than the TSB. I did have Ford repair my car following the TSB and the problem never occurred again.

Are you absolutely sure it's the separator plate? I mean, I thought that was the problem for me too, but the rattle actually ended up being the Exhaust hangers on the Transmission crossmember. I followed the procedure on TSB 06-4-1 and it took care of the rattle. It was dead easy to do. Just something to check...

Rubber washers at the bolts does not work on mine.

What about foam tape between the plate and the bell housing? Well, if the plate is vibrating against the flywheel, how would any kind of cushioning between the plate and bell housing stop the vibrating?

If I take the car to the dealership, would they actually fix it like a regular mechanic would by rigging up a good fix, or are they only allowed to replace parts with more factory parts?

I am so sick of this problem with my car....one among many problems with my car. (other problems include noisy shifter, shifter linkage bushing nut won't stay tight, cat code thrown, bad panhard bushing)

Sometimes I just want to get this car out of my life.
I had the same issue, the odd thing is that it started after 4yrs of owning the car...I went to Ford they are aware of the issue, and they have a TSB, but they wont pay to have it fixed. It's a $600 job, and that includes replacing it with a "newer" designed flexplate. I just ordered the plate and had my brother in law install it (He owns a shop).

The heat shields will also buzz if they are loose.

This is only the V8's? I swear my 5-speed V6 has a similar noise its like a chattering noise when I shift gears at low rpms and also coming from a stop then it goes away.

Wink separator fix update

so this weekend I jacked up the car to take a look at what was going on there, it IS/WAS the plate but I will go through what I did:

Jacked the car up, removed the two bolts on the bottom of the tranny casting and put some foam tape in the gap between the the plate and the tranny tighten the bolts up, start the car, problem got worse !

Took some thinking but after a few min. I decided to back the bolts off and see what happened, the noise got better! well after that I rummage around and found some standard automotive washers apx. 1/16 inch slid those between the plate and casting and ran the bolts in tight, noise is gone! I left the foam tape in there to offer some cushioning but its not doing much. The plate has a slight taper from the bolts that are the next highest but does not seem to hurt anything. hopefully this helps anyone with this problem.:
