Default LOL. Quoted $1200 for gear change (parts + labor). What parts do I need?

The Ford Stealership where I bought my 2009 GT wants $1200 parts/labor for the gear change (from 3.31 to 3.73)...which, unless I'm mistaken, is way higher than what most of you guys seem to pay.

The labor wasn't too far out (about $350) but the remainder was for parts- ring and pinion, axle seals, fluid, etc.

What should you actually pay for parts on this job? Are they quoting me on parts that I don't need to replace? Obviously you'll need the gears and the fluid...but what else? The car has about 11k miles...

Thanks for any advice.

I was quoted $1100 to do mine at the dealership also...i'm still trying to find a place that has some experience dealing with gear changes. Seems like most pay around $600....

Check out American Muscle dot com for prices.

Remember that your speedometer will be off after you change your gear ratio. So make sure you have them flash the computer with the new gear size or buy a tuner.

Here is a tech guide that goes over what to consider.

Here is what I would get...

I am headed to work, maybe someone else here will give you more detailed info, hope this helps though.

From everything I have read about gears on this fourm, it seems like a no-brainer to go with the FRPP gears rather than those offered by Motive but in the FAQ link on American Muscle, they suggest this installation kit made by Motive:
http://www.americanmuscle.com/moinkit8re.html

Any reason why this wouldn't be compatible with FRPP gears? I can't imagine that would be incompatible but if anyone knows something I don't...

Thanks again.
