2004 GT vs 2005 GT

I have three friends that have mustangs. I haven't ever even driven one. They won't let me. But I have rode in them. One is a '99 and the other two are 2000's. I want to drive or ride an s197. I won't get the same feeling as driving but I'll have a better idea. And for those who don't know EXACTLY what I want here you go. Screaming Yellow Manual GT. The price and model is what I have been jumbling around.

Well I will chime in since I own both a 2000 GT and a 2005 GT. Personally I prefer the 2005 as it is a much more comfortable car to ride in. The car handles better and throttle response is excellent. Having said that, I still can't find an exhaust set up that sounds as good as the borla exhaust on my 2000 GT. The new edge's are also easier to mod as you don't have to have a tune for adding a different throttle body, plenum or cold air intake. Both cars have their perks and I think either way you will be happy with what you choose. Good luck!

From what most say is that the New Edge sounds better, but that overall the S197 rides smoother and is a nicer overall experience. I will try really hard to find a good deal on an s197. But if I'm in a position with not enough money than 2004 it is. And I will feel no remorse. A Mustang is a Mustang.

When I first bought my '04 mustang about 4 years ago, I was in a similar situation as you. Wanted a S197 Stang, but I knew that I wanted a GT so the newer models were out. I 'settled' for an '04 GT, and never regretted it. 260 HP is plenty for your first 'performance' ride, enough to have fun and get in trouble with ( 60 in a 40, anyone? ). I have recently upgraded to a '10 GT, and I must say, I found the seats much more comfortable in the '04. I still haven't found the 'sweet spot' in the '10 seats, and the '04 was as easy as all the way down, all the way back.

So you still don't have an 05-09 S197...the 2010 is really awesome too though. If I take your route then I would like to save up to eventually get a brand new 2014 50th Anniversary Mustang GT.

Also, why hasn't anyone touched upon under hood room of the S197 vs the cramped new edge?
After messing with my LT1 F-body, it's a damn treat to pop the hood of the Ford S197.
And that is with long tubes on the LT1, it's still a bear to work on it.

I nearly bought a brand new 2002 GT and it was yellow(only manual with black leather interior I could find, but the yellow was too much for me as a DD). I was offered it for $19K fully loaded, so I'm sure a clean 2002-2004 GT nowadays can be bought in the $7-9K range.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think for what's available in the aftermarket and for a "modern" vehicle(ABS, traction control, dual air bags) it's hard to beat a New Edge Mustang IMO for someone young looking for their 1st Mustang.
