Default Is this a fair estimate?? Thanks

All,

First time oner of a Mustang GT....we had a V6...but the wife smoked it in a hydroplane accident into a f150's trailer hitch....OUCH....she was OK!

So I have the itch to make it "mine" by modding it a bit....

We have already put dark grey "shelby" stripes as well as some lower stripes too...instead of "GT 500" it just says GT....I think it looks good...esp when when its super clean...nothing better than a clean blac rag top!

Anyway...a pretty reputable shop has given me the following estimate...and I am pretty sure it seems fair...except for the "tune" that seems a bit pricey.

here's the reccomendation:

CAI and a 93 octane TUNE : $700.....it is a totally custome tune form MY car done by the shop owner himself....not sure if I get "possession" of that tune myself or not.

GEAR (3.73) $570 installed

PULLEY $300...<----What does the pulley replacement do??

And if I want to add it:

magnaflow XL's and some headers too....$1500....

Not that I am wanting to dump or can I dump that $$ all at once....

FAIR?

What to do first???

Is a custome tune worth that or is a BRENSPEED with their tuner SX in hand a better option??

Thanks and sorry for the long post....THANKS for reading

$1500 is a lot of money for exhaust. What about just axle back for ~$500? Since you have a stock GT I would get a canned tune from Tillman/Brenspeed. I assume it's an under drive pulley which won't give you much of a gain. I would do things in this order:

Gears (3.73 or 4.10) > Tune (Tillman/Brenspeed) > Mufflers (Search the forum for videos of various choices).

You should be able to do all three for less than $1500.

agreed i would do the gears with the tuner if possible and there are tons of options as far as exhaust goes, but 1500 for exhaust does sound a little high.

Gribley, let me repeat what I put in the other thread: I don't think you'll get a better bang for the buck that putting 4.10 gears in the car and following up with "canned" tune that allows you to calibrate the speedo at the same time. You can do both for $800.

You can get HP from the CAI and exhaust, but you will get the gain for the $. Gears don't translate to HP I guess, but they do translate to 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

You can buy a CAI & custom tune and install it yourself (E A S Y) for less than $700 plus you'll have the handheld so you change tunes at will. A good combo is good for 12-20 RWHP on a '10 GT; more on an '05-'09. Contact Brenspeed. The tune is about 75% of the power adder of the combo anyway so WHO you get the tune from is critical.

The gears sound a bit high. Be sure they're FRPP gears. Less chance of gear whine.

Headers are expensive IMO for the small gain but they go well with other mods such as cams. Plus, you'll need the tune to turn off the rear O2 sensors or you'll throw a CEL. And ANY exhaust work beyond the H-pipe will only add sound; NO performance: so you can get a good axleback for under $500 and install it yourself (E A S Y ! ! !) as it's all bolted.

By "pulley", I suspect they mean Under Drive Pulleys (UDP's) which are good for freeing-up about 3-4 RWHP. $300 installed is abit high but isn't too bad.

I spent about 1400 buckeroo's on exhaust, but that was eray thing from out the heads to out the rear facia, including long tubes.
