Default Why would you sound deaden?

This isn't a bashing thread to those who have done it, I'm just wondering, WHY? I'm not sure why anyone would uproot the seats, console, and basic interior panels just to make the interior quiet. Another thing; these are muscle cars, not BMW's. In my car, sound deadening for me is cranking up the stereo and drivin'.

So to those who have done it, I'd love to hear the reasoning. Thanks.

Wind noise, tire noise, and also helps with interior rattles...

Common reasons:

- It improves the sound quality of the stereo by reducing ambient noise.
- Reduce or elimiate many rattles.
- Reduce unwanted noise.

Yes, it's a muscle car (pony car actually), and we all enjoy the sound of the exhaust, engine, etc. But if it's a daily driver, many sounds are fatiguing and annoying. Ever drive in the rain for an hour or two? The sound of the tires splashing rain on the wheel wells is really loud and annoying in these cars. Personally, I have some minor gear whine that's really annoying between 55 and 35 mph. Ford has already f*cked things up trying to fix it several times, so they won't touch it again. I could spend $500 upgrading the gears, or about $200 sound deadening. Since I don't want the higher highway rpms of upgraded gears, I figure I'll give the sound deadening a shot. Worse case it doesn't help with the gear whine (I think it will since it's not very loud), but I'll still get a quieter car with a better sounding stereo and less rattles.

As to why someone would want to tear apart the intereior to do it, that one is easy - if it wasn't sound deadening, it would be something else. I'm not happy unless I'm modding in some way shape or form. That's the fun of owning it.

I'm with you on this one. I like to hear everything that goes on with my car so I'd know if something was up.

The new 2011s are supposed to have extra sound deadening in them. Just because it's a Mustang and a muscle car doesn't mean it has to ride like a tank. I know if I take a ride in either the V6 or GT 2011 I'm going to want it. For me, mainly because it's a better ride than what my '08 is now. But, I've gotta resist.

Although my Stang isn't my DD, I use her on long trips instead of my SUV as long as I don't need to haul a bunch of stuff. The Stang is a lot of fun to drive but on those long trips it'll wear you out with all the noise compared to quieter vehicles.
