I haven't been to the track yet, but from what I have heard, it is more than just "flooring" it. Needs some tactic.

If you have a local mustang club and they do private track rentals, good day to start learning or just messing around to find what works best.

Practice. Practice. Practice.
As far as parts: Some bigger sticker tires should help a lot as well. I've also heard that LCAs can really help eliminate wheel hop if those are already part of your suspension. A nice Limited slip could help keep both tires moving together and keep traction a little better. Also a Watts link should help keep the axle strait as the power is put down.

Take a course at a high performance driving or drag racing school. It's better to learn to do it correctly from the start than to try to unlearn bad habits later on.

I am 45, had 428, 429, 460, 351,5.0, stroked 5.0...... I just got a slightly used FR500 and have Nitto 555 drag radials and am having to learn to drive it as well. never had a car loosing traction in 3 and 4th gears. Not because of gear shift but due to th power curve comming in. It will take a while

Are drag radials safe for street driving if it rains?

no the lack of treads to channel the rain will increase the amount of hydroplaning that can happen you have to be more careful when the road conditions are worse

people do it but you just have to be more careful

I'm looking at these since they still have some tread pattern to them.

you just have to be careful that's all, kinda like what you're supposed to do in the rain anyway

Sliding sideways over 55mph is not safe either. Its my 2nd car and do not drive it if its raining, however if it does rain while i am out there is tread. I never do not have some tread

Drag radials are not very safe in the rain eh??? Hmmm, I may have to rethink that then, because that wouldn't be an option in Florida. Here in Florida, it rains about EVERYDAY for an hour about 6 months out of the year..
