Paint Stripes of Vinyl Stripes???

I just put my vinyl stripes on and have had people ask if theyre painted. If you get a quality vinyl, and install them right, they look just like paint would. You can feel the ridge, but it is similar to the ridge you would feel if you just clear coated painted stripes and didn't clear the entire body panel. I say the quality of vinyl stripes now days makes it a great choice. I'm happy with mine, even though I got them to be temporary until my car is repainted.

Zkiller is right. Painting stripes is easy. Prepping the car to paint them - correctly - is the bitch. My guy took off the bumpers, grille, trunk, wing and fake gas cap to lay out my stripes. I paid $2100 to get them done. I also had the stripes done with the proper Shelby dimensions, which taper instead of just being straight.
I say go paint! The price is right and the look is unbeatable.

No offense intended Trez83.
While I've never seen one myself and up close, I've talked to a few friends who have. It sounds great to have the 'originally designed spec stripes' for your mustang...but remember this: Those dimensions on the stripes were designed for the OLDER year mustangs (as in the late 60's).
I considered doing this same thing when I was getting ready to have mine painted on. I started asking around and eventually talked to a few who had actually seen stripes done this way on our S197's in person at car shows.....and none had ANYTHING good to say about doing it this way (one compared it to 'looking like the painter was drunk when he layed the stripes out') . If the dimensions had been redone to shelby specs based on OUR body style, it is definately the route I would have taken. Since it isnt, I ultimately decided not to and dont regret it in the slightest that mine are the same dimensions on the entire car.
I attached the sheet for you kierankelly to see the original shelby specs.
