Default Contents of a used S197 oil filter

I want to know what is considered "normal" and what would be considered "abnormal".

I need pictures, references, and facts. I would like them today.

Thanks Ninja for the input on the Fram.
Good service to the members here...
I'm sure only a few, know about the awful quality of the Fram.

A rag in a Budweiser can would be more efficient than that, lol.

I hate the suregrip frams. Idiots who change their oil are like "Hey, I can get a good grip on this, so I can torque it on EVEN TIGHTER!" Then, when they can't get it back off later on, I get the fortune of doing so.

I never use a wrench or a sure grip,
I put my filters on by hand , and a year later when I change them , they come off by hand.

I have pictures of 2 different filters and the cleaner filter is from my Cobra at a 3000 mile oil change and the dirty one is from another engine with more miles on it.

Lol, no.....I would never know how to tear into one of those things....
I did hear, however, you could tell a lot about engine wear based on what the inside of a used filter looked like. I was curious as to what that meant. I suppose you would see metal flakes?

Your pictures show how much variation can be seen within the filters themselves. Very nice job.

I was wondering what would make you think "Boy, my engine is going to blow" just by looking at the filter.....does it look all black and nasty? Or is there more to it than that?
