Alright guys in every review ive seen the mustang do a weak burnout! What is the cause of this the camaro and challenger smoke the tires more than a freight train!!

this is a good thing in my opinion,it means the 2011 should be able to hook up easier then a camaro or challenger

I dunno, after reading the recent motortrend reviews and comparisons it doesn't seem to be actually the mustang's fault but the tires not being smoky when spun. Every review said it has no problem spinning them so I suspect the tires are at fault.

The reason the Mustang does weak burnouts is cause it is much lighter than the others, the Camaro and the Challenger are 100's of pounds heavier which makes there burnouts much better. Plus the Mustang doesn't have the HP the others do but is lighter like I stated earlier which will make it a faster of the three.'

The real reason guys is the short gearing.

Hear me out, I assume the burnouts are done in 1st gear. With a top speed 15mph less in 1st gear than the others, thats is the most liekly reason the mustang just spins, and doesnt smoke the tires.

The faster you spin them(mph wise), the smokier the tire gets because it gets hotter and hotter. Same principle of doing a 2nd gear burnout to heat your tires at the track. 1st gear is not always deep enough to get enough speed to smoke the tires.

With the SS and SRT8 with much longer 1st gear, should be easier.

You also have to consider the rear tire width as a factor, the GT sits on 255s while the SS has 275 rear tires. You have more of a contact patch to burn and create smoke with in the Camaro.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure that they probably just did the burnouts in 1st gear. That's why they have a water box at the track, so you can start out in second gear and easily break traction with sticky tires to smoke them up. Tire speed makes more smoke, 3.73s in the new mustang are something like 4.10s or more in the 05-10s, you aren't going to get much tire speed in first gear.

Seems like the 4.6 10 GT did alot better burn outs on the same tires well not the exact same but the 18" 255 45 18 Pirelli Pnero Zero tires! The info seems like you guys know what your talking about above im just still boggled, Did the change all the gearing in 11 my 10 Auto is a 3:31 and she will smoke em nicely!

That's cool, I never really considered the gearing and speed of the tire was so much of a factor. I was actually considering the compound of the tire to be the major factor. But it does make sense that the tire speed is the big issue and the new gearing contributing to lower 1st gear tire speed. Learn something new everyday.

Almost feel like the reading rainbow things should come across and say "The more you know," or whatever it was.

motortrend blames the width of the tires, but after reading everything it might possibly be a combination of all the things listed above.

is there a "how to" for burnouts while we're on the topic? i've never done them, hard to do burnouts in the old 6
