New Car Smell

New Car Smell
Maybe I'm the only one, but I really like the new car smell, and its not just because it is associated with a new car; I really like it. So is there any car air freshners I can get that accurately captures it? I know they make one of those pine tree ones that you hang on your rearview mirror but it actually does not do a good job.

I like it too. One thing smoking and eating in your car is a no-no. Keeping your interior clean is a must; having the leather seats helps. Is there a fragance that captures it? No, nothing replacing that smell.

RE: New Car Smell
Keep it clean ALL the time - don't eat, smoke or wear excessive fragrances in it, try to keep it parked out of the sun at all times, and keep the windows up when parked. Basically - you have to keep it brand new for life, which is hard to do unless you are driving it like 1000 miles a year or less - like me
My neighbor has a 1985 GT with only 13K miles on it (yes, totally original). It has lived its entire life in a garage and STILL looks like is in showroom condition - and it still has a hint of that smell
Now if I can just get him to take my cash for the car [&:]

Fabreeze (or however you spell it) makes a car spray scent that is very similar to new car. A lotta people can't believe I've had my car for 3 months (and I smoke in it), and yet it still has that new car smell.
I just spray it on the carpet after I vacuum.

That smell is really what is called off-gassing, it is what happens to molded plastics for awhile when they are new, eventually it just goes away. But I agree it is a nice smell.

RE: New Car Smell
I've had the uphosltry done on a few classic cars and that seems to capture some of that new car smell for a while. I think it's a combination of the new foam, new fabric, and mostly the spray glue adheasive. I guess you could consider it a contact high for glue sniffers...
Eventually the glue dries (or finishes gassing off) and the smell fades away.

So - - - - - -
You go to the Material Store and buy a few feet of new Vinyl and rolll it up and put it under your seat... keeps your car smelling "NEW".. just replace the roll once a year to keep the smell!
