Default BRENSPEED/BAMA VS CONVENTIONAL TUNE

Ok guys I have been looking into getting a cai and tune. I know brenspeed and bama cost about 600 bucks and the tunes are great from what i hear but my problem is that i have a local race shop that says they can give me the same tune as brenspeed or bama for 150.

So my questions

1. Is it possible

2. If so what are the pros and cons of going to a local race shop and why
dont more ppl go that route?

and sorry if this is a ridiculous question!

You also get the CAI, X3 Tuner AND the 3 tunes for that price.

not to mention free tunes for life... so every mod that you do that requires a little tweaking... you don't have to worry about paying again

As a package deal this is probably the best way to go. It works fine, especially if you mods are minor. However, (hopefully most will agree) from experience there is nothing as good as a custom tune! When you car is actually on a dyno & then some road testing to put the final touches on your tune, this is TOP OF THE LINE!!

The reason more folks go with the first choice is price, some custom tunes can run upward in the $500 range, based on the tuners reputation & scope of the tune.

I have a CAI + tune for my 08 as the mods are minor. My 1990 coupe (fully built, motor, blower, etc....has a custom tune & so does my 03 vette that is heavily modded as well). Hope this helps!

Yes, on my two highly modded cars I had a local shop do it. I am lucky to have 2 good mustang tuners in town & one very good GM tuner as well.

Brenspeed/BAMA are also very good & convinient for the person that does not have a local shop to turn to.

I wouldn't take my stang to a local shop for a dyno tune unless it was heavily modded, IMO. Brenspeed tunes does wonders to my car as it is right now.

Did you add the cost of the intake and tuner to that first number? You couldn't possibly get that for $150. Your best bet would go with an affordable jlt cai with brenspeed's sct xcal 3 preloaded with 3 custom tunes. You could also try your luck and look for a member on here selling a used intake and UNLOCKED tuner and just pay for a single tune file if that way is more efficient. That is the route I went.
