Default 2 day old 2010 GT Brake Noise?

I just bought a 2010 GT Premium 2 days ago and absolutely love the thing. I do have one issue however.

I noticed today while driving with the windows down that there was a scraping noise coming from my front brakes while driving and not applying the brakes. It is not noticeable or goes away once the brakes are applied or at higher speeds, say over 40 mph.

I did not notice it the first two days, but it was also raining almost the entire time and I had the windows up. After hearing this noise today I checked the front pads and they seem to be very tight. I tried sticking my fingernail between the pad and rotor and there is no space at all. This is with the vehicle parked.

There should be some space between the pads and the rotor right? I am a little afraid to drive it to the dealer which is 20 miles down the interstate if they are rubbing the rotors the whole way. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, I'm no mechanic BUT with these cast iron rotors these cars have, rust makes them squeak some times. Odds are you car was on the lot for a while. I;d get going and get into the brakes hard enough to activate ABS and rub any rust off. See if that helps. Trust me if they are dragging you will smell it when you stop and get out of the car. I drove my 05 all of 20 feet this winter when the brake cable froze and it smelled like fried ***. The wife's Nissan squeaks like crazy if you get the brakes wet and let it sit a few days for rust to start up. one hard romp on the brakes and it all goes away.

I'm pretty sure that disk brakes only have a very small gap between the pad and the rotor. If a car has sat at all, or after rain the moisture will cause corrosion on the rotor which will cause noise. Also in general disk brakes ride the rotor sometimes, its just the design. You will notice brakes for drag racing are designed to be small to reduce the drag caused by the disk rubbing the rotor.

the 2 gentlemen above me pretty much hit it square on the head.

go out and nail the brakes a few times. since your brakes are brand new they probably aren't seated yet...and the corrosion/rust isn't helping any.

a few good applications of the brakes should scrape all that rust off, and seat those pads to the rotor

Thanks for the responses. It is raining out here again and driving it around this morning I did not notice any noise so Ill chalk it up to new brakes. The rust that was on the rotors when I drove it off the lot went away pretty quickly during the first day of driving.
