They usually look up the battery you need on their computers when you go into the store..

I did it just last week.. though I will say they kinda suck at finding the right batteries.

Why bring them the wrong battery info when they can look it up for you?

Plus, usually all batteries have warranties 2+ years, so you can take it in under that.

He's going to lie to try to get a different battery for his Mustang after he made the mistake. And morality police? Really? Why should the store be responsible for his mistake and take a loss? Maybe if he goes in there and explains what happened they will work with him. That's what we are saying he should do. And, you know what, I'm glad the morality police are on here. We have enough cheats, liars and losers in this world and it's nice to see some upstanding people taking a stand for what's right. This guy now has a choice to do what's right or to go ahead and lie to fix what he did wrong.

I know what he said, and I asked if you'd think of it different had he worded his statement differently. The outcome will be exactly the same either way. They'll take his 1 week old, perfect condition battery back, and put it on the shelf for sale. Then they'll give him the Mustang battery he needs. Later, they'll sell the battery he returned to another customer, who will get the expected 6 month life usage out of a Duralast battery.

Who lost what here? Do tell.

The next time you buy the wrong size t-shirt from Wal-Mart, will you suck it up as your own mistake, or will you take it back and get the right size?

it is the lie that is the problem...we are just telling him to be honest with the store instead of acting like it was there fault. if people were honest about stuff in the world we all would be better off! this guy is going back to the store and making a fuss and they did exactly what he asked, they sold him a battery for a f150... and then the next time it maybe something bigger, this starts the cycle of pulling the wool over someones eyes. We are trying to help the guy go down the right path. Cheating the system is never ok, that is why crap cost so much now because we all have to pay for the profit lost for people cheating the system!
JUST DO THE RIGHT THING! it is not that hard... getting down off my soap box

I'm trying to decide which moral to this story I should come away with. There definitely is more than one.

bASICALLY THE NEW BATTERY WAS TOO TALL.
fricken caps lock.
When the hood was closed and the red rubber positive terminal cover
rubbed thru to the hood, the resulting heat toasted the cap.
No mystery here.
Its happened more than once around here on the Forum.
You are just lucky it did not explode and throw acid on EVERYTHING.
That would have been expensive.

True.

And a couple of things to think about--The next time you need to return something because the vendor made a mistake or the part is damaged, cut him a little slack. Other customers may not have been honest with the vendor in the past. Also, the employee who supposedly made the mistake might wind up in trouble with the boss.
