Axle shafts... Are 7.5 and 8.8 the same?

I'm looking to find axle shafts for my 2005 7.5" rear on my v6, but am having little luck. I see ones that are 28-spline that say they are for the 8.8. Do those work in the 7.5 as well? Is the difference between 7.5 and 8.8 in the carrier rather than the axle shafts?

If anyone knows the answer, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks!

no, they are not interchangeable. the 8.8 is physically bigger in all respects.

why do you need new axleshafts?

you might be better off buying a whole 8.8 axle assembly. they run about $1,000 brand new with all the necessary V-6 swap components already installed. and you can grab them with 3.73 and 4.10 gears installed already as well

The reason I ask is because that has not always been true. At various time in the past, the 7.5 and 8.8 axle shafts were interchangeable. i.e.: 1990 model from what I have researched.

I had my 7.5 built up with a truetrac, 3.73's, and a girdle. however, my axle shafts had a groove worn in them when the build up was done, and the right hand wheel seal will not seal because of the groove and it is leaking. Hence... new axle shafts :(

I am not sure what axle shafts run but I swapped to an 8.8 and am looking to part with my complete 7.5 for $250. It only has 4000 miles on it. LMK

Ok called Moser about their A882805 axle shaft. It is a 28-spline, advertised as being for the 8.8. Doesn't say anything about 7.5". For the record, and for anyone looking into this in the future, DIRECTLY FROM MOSER: THE 28-SPLINE WILL WORK IN THE 7.5", IT'S THE SAME AXLE.
