Cool Finally painted my valve covers...

Well, I finally got tired of looking at the ugly bare valve covers and decided to paint them. I had planned on doing this when I did my cam swap but I didn't have time. I used a "Black Wrinkle Finish" made by VHT. It gives it that textured look like the FRPP valve covers. For less than $20, including primer and sandpaper, I think they turned out pretty good. Sorry for the poor quality of some of the pics.

Before:

After a little cleaning and sanding:

A little primer:

After: (Still drying in the first pic, but much better!)

Good Job, they look awesome.

I would like to do this mod but I can't decided what color would look best. I like the Black, but with my black car I feel like I want some contrast in the engine compartment. Maybe Chrome, to match the Jet Coated Kooks I hope to get some day.

Thanks guys! Geo, chrome would look great but I would also consider red. Red really "pops" with a black car!

gafireman.........how long did it take you to take off the covers - there's so much crap in the way? Red would be nice, but the ford blue would pop as well - prob my choice

Wusthof, it took about 30-40 minutes to get them off. I just zip-tied the wires back out of the way and you have to remove the battery and battery tray to access the passenger side cover. It's not hard at all, just a little time consuming. I would like to have done the Ford blue but I couldn't find it in a wrinkle finish only regular paint. Same goes for red, plus I figured it would be a little too much red under the hood of a red car.

Red does really pop on a black car. I just put red on my black stang this weekend. Pics:
