S197 V6 Rear Grinding
Early last summer I took my mustang to a mechanic to replace my coolant housing, and told them of a grinding noise that was coming from the rear. They said it was the exhaust grinding against bear metal, so they moved it down a little and welded it into place.
The noise went away for a few weeks, but came back soon after.
The Grinding is coming from the rear, I personally think its the back passenger side, but have had people say they hear it coming from both sides in the rear. It is not a Wub Wub Wub like what most people refer to as a bad weal bearing. It usually only happens when going straight at about 40-60mph, but sometimes happens at lower speeds. It also does not sound like a squeak like what a bad break pad sounds like. Instead it is a constant deep grinding noise that stops as soon as I take my foot off the gas. I do not want to take it to a mechanic again unless I know what is wrong, because all the mechanics in my area have misdiagnosed the three cars we own several times.
Has anyone else had this sound? And if so how did you fix it?
