those camaros of that vintage sure were junk as far as quality goes. the interior down right sucked and the rest of the car wasn't put together that well.

Yep. they were actually producing up towards 325-345, but GM called them 305 to buffer the distance between the then 345 HP claim for the corvette. It was all propaganda as to not take away from the vette's thunder in the late 90's.

I agree, the quality of my 2008 GT far exceeds the build of my 1999 Trans Am. Now, I did redo the TA and made it almost as good, but the Stang beats it hands down in build quality. Now, on the other hand, my TA would spank my Stangs butt all the way down the track, no contest. Even stock for stock it's minimum .5 seconds faster every time.

I ran a 98 T/A in my 08 around a year or so ago. He jumped me pretty good off the line and was rapidly about 40 feet ahead of me. I caught up with him very quickly and then walked him. The T/A was an auto. He said it had a "chip" and a lid. My car's an 08 w/a 93 octane tune and Bullitt air intake (manual tranny, 3.31 gears).

yeah, stock TCs in the TA sucked at the track. Large gains were found by the upgrade, had the car been a 6 speed with experienced driver it would have been a win for him. Air lids didn't give as much HP as advertised and our cars actually lost performance at the track using Hypertech tuners, etc. Canned tunes were TERRIBLE for our cars. We left them stock until we bought HPTuners software.

Good runs. The auto LS1's still run pretty good and the tranny benefits greatly from a tune, much like our cars. Much past the triple digits and you would have probably been watching his tail lights slowly get smaller. S197 roll races with LS1 cars almost always favor the LS1 when both cars are stock due to the Camaro/TA aerodynamic advantage and the fact that they just have more horsepower.
