making rattling sound underneath car
hey, i have and 07 mustang gt stick, a couple of days ago i noticed on cold starts, for the first minute or so it rattles underneath pretty bad then goes away, i thought it was just a heat shield which is y it went away once exhaust was hot and expanded, until i noticed that when u hit the clutch pedal it gets louder, so could it be something with the clutch or throwout bearing, i looked up adn i guess some of these have the slave cylinder and throwout bearing as one piece but some are seperate, but i dont know for sure, so any help is appreciated, it only does it for a minute or so and then goes away wich doesnt make sence because everything works fine, thanks

There's a TSB for, if I recall, a seperator plate associated with the tranny. That's one of the S197 demon rattles. Another could be the exhaust clamps needing to be torqued a bit more, mainly the axleback clamps. You also mentioned heat shields and, although it would seem the clutch shouldn't be associated with changes in a heat shield rattle, depressing the clutch will change the entire harmonic response of the chassis and attachments to the engine/tranny. Good luck hunting it down.

There is the link to the TSB info for the problem. If your car is still under factory warranty Ford will fix it for free.

I just went through h**l trying to get that plate rattle fixed.....extended warranty co. wouldn't do it, so it would be in my lap for about $650. I took care of the problem last friday by cutting 2 pieces of rubber bike tubing about 1" square (just one layer of the tubing), then cut a "C" notch into each one that would fit around the 2 plate bolt threads on the bottom of the bell housing, back out the bolts about 1/2 way, slide the rubber pieces onto the bolt threads, then tighten the bolts back up. Shave away any excess hanging below the plate. Haven't heard it since, and it's gotten pretty cold here the last several mornings. Give it a try....3 bucks and 15 minutes instead of 650!

hey, yup u were all correct, i put it in the air today and checked and that plate is slightly warped, i just pushed on it by hand where it should be and sound was gone, the way it was warped it was slightly rubbing the flywheel which is y it changed when i hit the clutch im guessing, also once it warms up from engine heat it must un warp some causing the sound to go away, and i did the same thing, loosened the botom 2 bolts and shimmed it just a bit and all was well, i also had the ocasional mystery rattle at about 3500 every once and awhile before this tarted happening, that is now gone also, so anyone that has a misterious anoying rattle should check that plate, thank all of you very much for your help
