Clutch advice for ~550HP ?
Alright, I'm nearly fed up with the useless search feature on the forum so I apologize for this post because I am SURE this has been asked before.
So...I just picked up a Saleen Series VI and it should arrive in a week or two. With my other mods I figure I'll be deep into 500 crank HP. I figured the Spec Stage 2+ clutch would be fine which is said to hold 670ft/lbs, but I went to order one from a local shop and the guy insisted I should go with a Stage 3 or 3+. Obviously the cost is more...
What should I do? And I've heard rumours the stage 3's wear out much faster than the stage 2's and also that daily driveability is drastically reduced on 2 vs 3 too, can someone clarify those myths for me?

The stage 2+ drives so much better than the 3 from numerous reports in LS1 cars, I'm sure it's the same for the S197. If the 2+ supports your power (and it does), buy it. Puck type clutches are known for clutch chatter and won't be as smooth the the full face clutch. I agree with another poster about buying more clutch than you need, but so many times I bought more than I needed planning to upgrade later, and that upgrade never occurred. The only puck type clutch I have ever loved was the textralia. Unfortunately, they don't build them for the Mustang (that I know of).

I just recently ordered the Spec 3+, should get it today. After the install I do plan on writing a reveiw. From all of the reviews I've read the Spec 3 is more of an on/off switch which does chatter during the break in period. I tend to think this is the case for most of the aftermarket clutch set-ups with the expection of the McLoed RST twin disc set-up.
The reviews have said that the Spec 3+ is much more streetable than the Spec 3. The Spec 3 is more of a strip/street application verses the 3+ which is a more a street/strip application. I went with the 3+ because I plan on going to the strip just a few times a year. I do like the holding power if offers and the fact that its more of a street application that can handle the power that you throw at it, in my case a mere 462HP. I don't mind buying more clutch than I need.
I've read several reviews of the Spec 2 and Spec 2+. If these are your only options, I go with the 2+ and keep in mind that it will chatter. Just so you know some of the users of this clutch set-up ended up removing it, while others were able to manage the chatter, kind of 50/50.
Really, it all comes down to what you feel most comfortable with. If its your DD then I would go with the Spec 3+ over the 3.
See the link below for one of the reviews I came across during my research.

3+
the weight of our cars is a huge factor in the clutch holding/lasting. the 3+ is a proven clutch in our cars. I have one for about 7000 miles, 75+ track passes, has not missed a beat, a buddy had one for 500+ passes and it was good enough for another guy to put in his low 11s S197 and has had it for a year plus with out issue.
