10% down on factory order? Dealer policy or standard?
For you guys who have ordered a car recently, is 10% down at the time of the order a standard procedure?
It's not necessarily a deal breaker but the dealer tried to make it sound like a standard thing...and it sounds like a load of crap to me.

10% down isn't a Ford thing, its a dealer request. Dealers will ask for that money down to ensure you are serious. Most often they have other Mustangs on the ground that they would rather sell. A bigger deposit would be required on a car or truck with unique specifications. If you are going to buy the car anyways I'd be fine with doing it.

back in the 70s and 80s u had to have atleast 10 percent. That was the standard on anything u bought back then. A house or car or anything u were taking a loan out for. Not sure why it has changed but i can only imagine it made sales go up b/c the people that couldnt buy new cars then can now. I also saw that GM is wanting to get back into the subprime loan business. why do they wanna do that since they just got out of that mess the tax payers bailed them out of.

Thanks, guys... good insight all around.
I offered a $500 deposit tonight (with the encouragement of this thread) at a different local Ford dealer and they thought this was fine.
My '11 is on order!!
