Why buy a GT500 over 5.0?

I found a 2008 GT 500 with 558 miles on it...paid 42500...Installed a Brenspeed stage 2 performance package and a Dynotech aluminum driveshaft...ran 547 rwhp on a Dynojet dyno...I cant wait to vaporize a 5.0...

Actually the GT500's 5.4 does NOT have forged internals but they are strong enough to have a limit of about 700 rwhp but they're not like the 03/04 internals or what you'd get from a custom built engine.
However, a smaller blower pulley and a tune will get you ~100hp more. Add headers and straight through mufflers and you'll squeeze out at least 40+ extra. The stock internals, while not forged, can handle this just fine so it's all good.
It would actually be a hard decision between a GT500 and 2012 Boss 302 for me even though I know of the pluses of the GT500 and I love the GT500. BTW, the Boss 302 was recently un-officially announced. Woot! Also, this 5.0 and the intake manifold FRPP made for the 302R (which will probably be sold to any one in the short future) will allow this engine to rev to 8300 RPM with no other mods and it all works just fine. The stock valve train of the 5.0 is beefy.

Actually the GT500 DOES have forged internals! But the rods are whats called crack-forged, not a true forging. The engine is good for about 800RWHP before spontaneously exploding (according to big name gurus at Lethal Performance and Evolution Performance). the New 5.0 comes with NON-FORGED ALUMINUM Pistons (KA-BOOM!) and a high compression (read: not boost friendly) ratio, from what I understand.
My GT500 weighs in a hair over 3800lbs (with a full tank and no driver). So weight difference is negliable.
And stock for stock the times are close...but one of the biggest complaints of the GT500 has always been that the tires aren't big enough for the power. Throw drags on both and watch the gap get wider in the GT500 favor. Additionally...for approx $1500 the GT500 is going to add 100RWHP...you're not going to get that with the 5.0. And with $5K you can add a S/C to the 5.0, or get any size S/C you can think of for the GT500...2.9, 3.3, 3.4, 3.6, 4.0, or a new 4.2 liquid cooled (1500HP capable) S/C from KB.
You're heard it before...there's no replacement, for displacement!

I'll take a GT500 with an intake/pulley/tune and run roughshod over bolt on 5.0s all day every day. You're seriously underestimating what a few very simple mods does to a 5.4l supercharged motor.
The new 5.0 may be the best thing for Mustangs in a long, long time but the GT500s are on another level. They're beastly.
