Before any really intelligent axle gear choice can be made, you need to know something about the individual tranny gear ratios. Haven't seen that yet.

Anybody?

even though 6th gear is only .65 vs. .5 in the T56 from the Viper/Vette I would STILL choose the final gear of 3.73

if 5th gear in the 05-09 cars is .69 and our cars didn't lose MPG with 3.73....why should the 2011 cars? They won't.

Wow, the 11.0/1 compression ratio and the aluminum piston combo in the new 2011's 5.0 engine is going to suck for boost. You would be lucky to exceed 6-7 lbs. of boost before you kill the stock engine, just like in the 05 and up Corvette.

Hence the Shelby's not super impresive hp rating. If you want lots of boost you will be getting into the block....but I just cant for the life of me see a lot of people needing a 600hp+ car for the street. I mean really 400 to the rear is a ton if your not trying to run everybody on the way to work every day lol.

O and dont worry 373 wont hurt your milage that much...It would be better than a full size pickup EASYYYYY. I could get 27 in the Bullitt on a hour trip or more and around town never below 20 unless I was being a JA.

are you referring to the 05-09 GT500?

if so, I think you fell off the turnip truck and hit your head. It may not be super impressive from the factory, but simple mods wake that motor up nicely. 600+ RWHP GT500's are quiet common now days.

Pretty sure he's referring to the new gt350. Only has about 100 over stock from what I've read.

As far as the gears go, your 6th gear is very similar to a 4.6's 5th gear. As shown above, you do not have a double overdrive. That being said, I have 4.10's in my car and regularly drive it on the freeway. It's not bad at all. I have never had one person comment about it in a negative manner. I have to assume its the old mentality thinking that 4.10's just wont' work for the street (freeway), but that's when people were running 4spd trannies. Anyway, before I ramble on any more, stay with the 3.73's, you'll be fine.

If you plan to drag race it, I would look at what size tire/wheel combo I planned to run and see what gearing would keep me in 4th gear at 7k rpm through the traps. I think that would probably be the 3.55s with a 27'' tire. Otherwise, screw it and go with the 3.73s.

27" tires, 7000 rpm, 4th gear, and 3.73's ==> 111 mph give/take maybe a couple . . .

you guys are comparing gears but what about traction? there's also the additional hp and torque might cause the car to slip and slide with 373's, no?
