Wheel widening doesnt allow you to run wider tires? WTF?
Someone in the 4.6L tech discussion said that having your wheels widened to say... 11" from 9" wont allow you to run wider tires. Wtf? I really like the stock wheels that come with the Brembo brake package.
Btw im doing a 2011 GT500 body conversion sans emblems (have my own). Pretty sure that 19x11" wheels 52mm offset running Toyo drag radials 315/35/19 on the rears won't rub at all even after lowering the car a bit.

To the OP, do you intend to lower? If not you can put a tire on that'll extend outside the wheel wells and, providing you have the correct offset, tire availability, tire manufacturer limits and practicality are probably the limits. IMO, though, a 10" width is about as wide as I'd go on my Stang. I currently have 275's on a 9.5" wheel.

Why else would you widen a wheel? For looks? At some point, you may not be able to go wider on rubber without body modifications/fender rolling. When I swapped rims/tires on my M3, I had to roll the inner fenders to gain another 1/4" of room. But fender rolling isn't difficult or very time consuming given the proper tool.

I can't believe anyone would say that. Without having read the actual comment, I'd guess that what he meant to convey was that it would be hard to accommodate the width of a tire that fits on an 11" wide wheel inside and/or below your fenders.
Or else he's just an idiot.
