2007 Low Mileage Shelby VS 2011 5.0?
#12
GT500...how much are they asking for it? I can't see a used 07 being $35-40,000
2011 is pretty cool, but the GT500 is a beast. they are built tough as nails from the factory and will give you years of trouble free fun driving.
besides, it's 1st year for the 5.0...issues are going to come up.

Sorry to hear about your wreck imo I would go 2011 5.0 all day long great looking car high build quality superior ride quality fit&finish should get better mileage cheaper insurance like others said cheaper repair costs overall much better for a dd. Whats not to like about a car that is in the 12's off the showroom floor and can knock down 25+mpg on the highway while riding in comfort&style that some compare to certain german name brands?
edit plus it has those cool badges on the fender

Good morning everyone,
Long time reader, occasional poster here.
Just totaled my 2008 GT and expect to do pretty well in the settlement. So here's the dilemma:
Found a super low mileage, 2007 Shelby GT500 for roughly the same price as the 2011 5.0 that I wanted to get. My problem is that this car is going to be a daily driver. I have owned mustangs all my life, but never a FI beast quite like the Shelby, and I am worried about the miles I will be putting on her driving to and from work with all the extra moving parts. Not too concerned about the actual monetary value, because I think cars are for driving, not investments.
Just wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts on the reliability of a GT500 as a DD.
Thanks in advice for your thoughts...
Mark

stronger tranny
better clutch
more power potential
Suspension is already really good in the GT500 and there is alot of aftermarket stuff for the GT500. You do not have to buy Shelby stuff.

^^^^^^^^^That about sums it up. Plus the most important part is you can order it exactly the way you want, and know it wasnt ragged on.

Yep, he can buy a 2009 GT500 for that price, and the car will have 5,000 miles or less on the clock. Ditch the 2007 Theory, and I would never buy the 2011 5.0 over a 2009 GT500 with that low of miles.

Fellas (and ladies?),
Appreciate all the input. Not really concerned about the value of the car being affected by the mileage. I am active duty in the Navy and regularly put in 12-14 hour days...so if the small piece of joy I get from turning that ignition key in the morning costs me a little on the back end, thats fine with me. And Im never going to sell it anyway.
I may buy a beater for the winters, but in general, I plan on driving her everyday as therapeutic relief.
The only real concern I have is the reliability of additional moving parts in the Shelby. Im mechanically inclined (ie change the oil, brake pads, can follow instructions...), but hardly ready to get under the hood of a FI motor when she starts making funny noises.
I think a few of you implied that the Shelby motor is pretty durable and I would just wonder if there is anything special about routine maintenance that comes with a GT500.
thanks again, and Have a great weekend.

keep the oil clean, the air filter clean and have fun.
the maintenance interval on a blown motor is barely more rigorous than a normal N/A motor.
I'm curious to what 2007 GT500 you've found that is in the same price range as a 2011 GT. I'm thinking you are more in the range of a 2009/2010 GT500 for that kinda money.
