Default 5.0 Real World MPG

All of you 5.0 owners, what kind of MPG are you seeing? Also, during normal driving, where are you shifting? With the 3.73s and shifting at about 2,500 I am seeing only about 15 MPG combined. I only have 575 miles on it, and I am thinking the ECU may be running lean during the break-in period, correct me if I am wrong. It is getting better though, got 23 MPG @ 75 MPH on the highway this morning over about 4 miles. Just curious about others experience...

*Side note: What do you know about the "lock-shift" feature. I only got it yesterday when trying to get it as I shifted from 1st at 1500 RPMs, lol. Seems like its not good for the car to be in 4th at 15 MPH, but again I could be wrong...

I have about the same miles on mine and I'm seeing close to the same mileage. Yesterday I drove it for about 50 highway miles and at 65 mph and got 26 mph. Around town 17-18 (without beating it) and 15 mph (driving aggresive).

The skip shift feature plain sucks, it's funny cause a buddy of mine has a 2010 Camaro ss and I was ******* him out about the worthless skip shift feature and now my car has it.

Thanks for the reply. I am really curious about my ECU theory, running lean in the beginning... Speaking of the ECU, has anybody heard when we can expect some tunes for these bad boys? I am itching for another SCT like I had on my 2006 GT and the performance/economy gains that come with them.

Running lean would net BETTER gas mileage not worse...your car would be running RICH if it was using more gas for protection with a break in tune (richer = safer)...but I suspect it has more to do with the 3.73 gears you chose.

My bad, new to the lingo... All i know is when I first got it, at around 200 miles, I got about 18 MPG on the same stretch of road I got 23 MPG this morning @ 75 MPH. That was 300 miles ago on the odometer. Also, RPMs are RPMs, regardless of what gears you have. I was just curious what MPG us early adopters were getting, saying I shift at about 2000-2500. Thanks for the clarification though, I appreciate the response.

17-18 mpg in town is fantastic for a car like this, my 04 gto was getting about 15-16 in town and it only made 300 to the wheel. Although I hate the fact it has the same type of skip shift feature the GM 6 speeds have.

It's this stupid feature that forces you to shift from 1st to forth if you accelerate slowly, or you're at a lower rpm. You can't just put it in second, and it can be very annoying when you try to go to second. I hope the ford feature is less intrusive.

Thanks for the info...It sounds stupid... I guess it's an economy thing.
