Default A/F Ratio at Idle

Hey guys,

I have a wide-band kit in my car (aeroforce w/ the interceptor) and recently at idle I've been getting readings I'm not sure are right. The idle has always centered around 14.7-14.8 and the numbers would fluctuate as they're supposed to around 14.7(ie: between 14.3 and 15)

Recently though, the A/F has been centering around 15.0(between 14.7 and 15.3) and only occasionally does it even hit 14.7

Then today for a minute straight at idle the A/F was reading between 15.0 and 15.4 and didn't touch 14.9 for like a minute.

Do these seem normal? Brenspeed says it's fine and I know the computer controls the idle AFR but still they seem high and lean. Could something be wrong?

Thanks!

Also, I know they aren't really high numbers but it's strange that they changed and that is what makes me think something is up.

BTW I've already tried recalibrating the wide-band controller----no go.

Try cleaning your MAF sensor. Maybe it is reading a hair off and the PCM is having a hard time finding stoich. Unless your fuel mileage has started to decline, or you notice a loss of power, I wouldn't worry about it. The only meaningful reading from an AF gauge is at WOT, and the only time that is really a big deal is if you have boost. The O2 sensors are constantly telling the PCM to go leaner or richer, even at idle, so AF is a reading that is never going to be very accurate unless the O2 sensors are ignored (ie in the case of WOT).

If your car has high mileage, then the lean readings can be caused by a tired O2 sensor.

Disconnect the battery lately?
Did you do the adaptive relearning procedure?

it's not uncommon for the AF ratio to very a little especially in light loads. as long as it's running fine and not missing I wouldn't worry that much.

Hmmm, I haven't had the battery off for a while and def not between when this happened.

I've cleaned the MAF recently but I don't think you can screw that up. You take it out, spray it with MAF cleaner and pop it back in.

I only have 38k so the sensors are probably good.

I don't keep track of mileage but it seems fine, as does the power and drive-ability.

Honestly, if the gauge didn't start reading leaner, I wouldn't have thought there were any potential problems.

Now what's this with the adaptive learning procedure?

Again, I'm trying to relay that I know the #'s are in line for idle, It's just weird that they centered around 14.7(between 14.3-15) and now it centers around 15(14.9-15.5)

I drove around a lot today. Strangely for a little bit this evening, the #s seemed normal again. I tried to give all the info I could in the last post. Any more ideas? Also, would heat/humidity change the #'s this much?

The weather can have a minimal effect like the one you're seeing.

I think its nothing. Heck your A/F gauge can easily be off 0.1-0.2.
