Toyotas are not the only car with drive by wire. And my 2005 used to accelerate all by itself, going vroom, vroom, vroom when my foot was off the gas pedal!
I have a co-worker who is claiming that his V6 is doing the same thing and have read reports of several other unintended acceleration events with the S197's.

All,

It turns out my throttle body was filthy. I cleaned it up and the car is runing fine.

I was going to say... my car used to do that just before the throttle body shorted and had to be replaced. That happened about two years into my owning the car.

Also (perhaps this is related), it seems like sometimes when I am trying to accelerate away from a stop that the car doesn't want to move at first and then I end up giving it too much gas and I lunge forward.

Could these all be signs of a dirty/sticky throttle body or something? Any other ideas as to what could be causing this?

I originally thought it was a separate issue since they appeared at different times, but in case they are related here is a link to another thread where I discuss another issue:
https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...gas-pedal.html
I am currently having this exact issue, and this only happened after I installed my TUNE/INTAKE. I got a second tune (did not let AM know of the problem) and it still persisted. I've been requesting a new tune for about a month now, so hopefully that'll fix the issue, if not than looks like I will have to clean my throttle body.

Although you don't need to remove the TB to clean, it IS the best way. It's pretty simple to remove the intake piping and spray and wipe the TB. It also doesn't hurt to spray the MAF, too. Just use checmicals made for the application(s).

Many an issue can be resolved by trying these simple maintenance items before running to a shop and getting slapped with a big bill ("...and you needed your muffler bearings greased, too...").

Glad you got it taken care of OP. Was going to say it's a dirty throttle body. Just went through the same ordeal.
