clean your CAI filter!
 

10,000 miles on the clock and I just now cleaned my CAI filter. It was shocking how much dirt and crap fell out of the filter just from tapping the filter on to the garage floor.

It is drying out now. And it actually looks kinda clean.

Think I'll do this with every oil change from here on out.

10k miles is a bit early IMO. And you can get cleaning/reoiling kits many places. I typically clean mine between 15k and 25k miles depending on what conditions I've experienced.

I just cleaned mine, 100 miles later there are bugs and other crap already built up on the filter!

I bought an extra filter for mine, so i can just swap-out when it gets dirty and clean and re-oil the other filter at my convenience.

The filter is designed to trap dirt and to continue to breath well WITH dirt, bugs, etc.. Cleaning it everytime it LOOKS dirty is a waste but then, it's your CAI.

If the bugs bother you, do what 157db posted; cover your CAI with part of a womans' nylon stocking. It'll trap the chunky stuff and you can remove it with the bugs w/o having to clean/reoil the CAI.

It never looked all that bad. I was gonna clean it anyway (every other oil change interval).

It was just shocked at all the dirt that fell out when I started tapping it on the ground (1st step in the cleaning process). I mean a LOT of crap came out. Not some. Not a little. A pile. I moved outside to do this just because the mess was so big.

Would a fat lady's stocking be better than a long legged one's? But certainly avoid a man's nylon stocking...

K&N make a thing called a "Dry Charger" for their filters. If you measure your filter and go to their website and try and match your filter to one of there's and see if they make one for your filter. They do not make them for all there filters.
