Typical motor build costing??

My friend has been costing a replacement "built" motor for his GT and I've been steering him toward a prebuilt assembly such as the Aluminator which can be snapped up for around the $3k mark.

Assuming his motor hasn't grenaded and is a good runner, what would typical shop costs be to essentially swap out the short blocks including gaskets & sundry parts etc...

Thanks
Marcus :)

the cost of the internals plus the labor of a shop doing the work will wind up about the same as buying a built short block. you are probly better off buying the short block. if you do the work yourself, getting the rotating assembly may save a few bucks. but if your not used to working on engines, i would get the aluminator.

????

I already said the plan would be to buy the assembled short block and am questioning the additional cost of installation into the car

Typically, on modern Ford cars, you're looking at about 20 hrs in labor for an engine swap (stock to stock)...
So depending on the labor rate where you live, it can fluctuate a lot.
In FL, the dealer will charge you about $80 an hour.
An independent shop will be around $55/60.
So by the book, from $1200 to $1600 roughly...

According to Ford's manuals its a 23-24 hour charge depending on auto vs. manual transmissions.

You can figure about $400 in gaskets and hardware on the low end. That's if you do the shopping. Retail will be significantly more.

An Aluminator short block such as the M-6009-A463V, would be a great replacement. Usually an OHC replacement will be between $700 - $1000 in labor if you leave the shop a few days to a week and have them take their time.

Sounds quite reasonable.... Hmmmmmmmmmm

Yeah, I wouldn't pay more than a Grand for the labor...
