Default Columbus OH Differential Repair

Good morning,

I have Motive 4.10 gears in my 2006 vert and I can not stand the whine. I want to either try new gears or go with the 8.8 take off and just have the whole rear end replaced. Does anyone have any experience with any shops doing this kind of work in the Columbus area? I would be interested in any experiences good or bad and any cost any has had in this area.

I have been doing some work to the car and would like to not go crazy with spending money on this, but can not drive the car and enjoy it as it is. I would not mind just getting the gears replaced if it was a good shop and they gave a no whine guarentee, but if there is nothing like that around, or if it made more sense cost wise, I would go with the 8.8 just to ensure that there is no whine.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

The gears shouldn't whine if they are installed correctly

WEll there is a speed shop called Brenspeed in North Webster,IN. Not sure how far of drive that would be for ya but they did my gear install and there is no whine at all. They do in fact warranty there work for a year afterwards. If u tell them that u are coming from out of town they have an apartment built into there shop if you want to stay there. The gear install is around 500 but with no whine and top service its well worth it.

Many on the forum will tell you that the FRPP gears are the gear of choice simply due to the whine issue. I've heard a number of issues with Motive. The install has to be dead-to-nutz on.

And what makes you think an 8.8 take off won't whine?
Somebody put the 3.73's or 4.10's in that 8.8.

There is a member on here "07Lane40" that got his installed at Maverick motors in Pataskala. You may want to shoot him a PM and ask him how he likes his. Also there is a shop on the east side of Cols called Gearheadz. He's also a member on here and primarily works on Mustangs. Shoot him a PM and tell him I sent you, his name is Rob.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

From my personal experience with both Motive and FRPP gears, I can tell you that the gear itself doesn't matter as much as the installer. Choose wisely and make 100% sure when you do make a choice you tell the shop you decide on that if there is noise you will continue to take it back to them until it is perfect and at no cost to you. Any mechanic who won't guarantee the work 100% is not fit to work on your vehicle.

You might have to pay a little more, and you might also have to have the shop buy the gears and install kit so they can warranty it, but believe me, it is worth it. Nothing is worse than spending $500-600 and ending up with noise and no way to get it fixed without spending more money. My last install cost $800, all parts included. That seemed high but now I can do 85 with the top up and not hear the rear end where before I could do that with the top down and the radio up and still hear it whining. Well worth a little added expense.

+1 JC my rearend work has been great Brenspeed its about 3 hour drive from Columbus I'm in Cincinnati it's worth the drive. The only other shop I would allow to touch my 2006 gt is Dayton speed they have years of working the 8.8.The guys around Norwalk OH near Cedarpoint East of Camp Perry on US 2 I cant remember the shop name but google speed shops Norwalk OH and U should get a hit. The 4 hour drive to Brenspeed was worth it for me.
