No they should not

275/40/18's should have 755
(actually 756 but rounded for tuner)

And we have already addressed the issue that the tune setting cannot unmistakably tell the actual gears that were put in.

Thx.
And was my idea of marking stationary marks near the mark of the rotating mark on the driveshaft and tires a good idea so you can tell where they meet up to form an exact full rotation?

Yes they should be 775. You will never get the right results if you put the wrong info in.

Measure your tire height with the tire mounted and installed on the car. Multiply by 3.142. The result will be tire diameter. Divide 63360 (inches in a mile) by tire diameter to get revs per mile.

756 would be closer to a 285/40/18. My 285's came out to 759.

Do you mean circumference? Diameter is just twice the radius.

If the car is programmed to 3.73's.... will it still rotate 4.1 times with 4.10 gears?
Yes. There's nothing that can be put into a programmer that would alter how the ring and pinion interact between the driveshaft and rear axles.

Also... should I make a mark not only on those points but perhaps make a removable mark on something that is not moving close to the tire so that the two points meet up exactly when the tire has rotated one time?

And the same thing with the driveshaft?
Couldn't hurt.

Tire revs also depend on the manufacture. Nitto NT 555 275/40/18 list the revs per mile as 781. My rear tires are Nitto NT 555 285/40/18 which are 770 Revs, but I have my revs per mile set at 793 (770 x 1.03 for load) This is spot on according to GPS and those signs the tell you your speed.

damn, where the hell did you have your gears installed? lol

remind us all to stay clear of that place.

You could always find a deserted spot and launch the car from a high rpm up til mid 4th gear. If it's obviously closer revs per gear and you are launching like a bat outta hell, it's the 4.10s. If there is mild improvement. I'd be suspicious. First time I launched my 4.10s I was disappointed because I had zero traction and the gears were 1k rpm of one another...

Why on this site does it say the revs should be 755?

But again... why does this talk EVEN MATTER right now when I am trying to find out not what the car is programmed for.... BUT WHAT PHYSICAL gears are in the car?
NO programming will tell me this.....

See, im concerned about having this problem with most of the shops in my area. I know alot of forums have an area dedicated to calling out bad shops and reccomending good ones.

Does anyone have the name of a reputable shop in the Chattanooga, TN area?

I wouldn't go by programming and math. The numbers are to close to determine. It's going to be a physical/mechanical test to figure it out.
