Default funny asian guy and my GT

I went to the junk yard yesterday to junk my old motor parts and this old asian dude was all giving me a thumbs up and happily saying "ha ha, cool'ra it'sa Moosetang'a!"

I was like, "yes, Mustang. Very cool" *thumbs up*

He then continues with "Vroom! Vroom! Very'a cool'ra! V-8! Vroom! vroom!"

He then eyeballs the tribal graphics, still smiling..

his tone changed when he peeked in the window.. then he was like "meh"..

Him: "ah, it'sa automatic'a.. ah, it'sa okay.. kinda guey...V-6?"

Me: "nah, it's a V8, BIG MOTOR" *makes big square motion with hands*

Him: "ah.. it'sa okay..automatic'a.. little guey.. you drive grandma in car?"

Me: "umm.. no"

Him: "ah..okay, girlfriend car?"

Me: "nope, it's my car"

him: "reer'rly? ah.. fire on side, very cool'ra"..

me: "they're tribals actually"..

him: "tribra'l?"

me: "tribals"

him"....fire?"

me: "TRIBALS"..

him: "no flames?"

me: "no"...

him: "ah.. it'sa okay.. little bit cool'ra, just a little.. not too much"...

I then popped the hood to show off the blower. He looks around. Shakes his head and points at the snail. This "no good. Blow hot air, engine go boom!"..

At that point I gave up!! lulz

Well you were much more polite than me. I would have walked away as soon as he started questioning your choice of transmissions.

You guys need to try to understand where the old dude is coming from. He sounds like he's more of an enthusiast than you'd expect, with his own frame of reference that probably goes back further than your daddy's does. I work with a number of Chinese guys who are in their 60's and 70's, and I can almost hear how that little conversation went. Thanks for the grin.

Seriously, I'm betting that when he was your age, hot rods had flames (the term "tribals" is new to me as of this thread, actually, but I can see where his comment came from) and no fenders.

Automatics were known as "slushboxes" mainly intended for non-enthusiasts, those with physical handicaps, and "lazy-man" low-performance driving in general. Even drag racing had not really come around to accept the automatic's possibilities (that started gaining ground about mid-1960's). Time was when it was a badge of shame for a boy/young man to either not be able to drive stick or prefer to drive automatic. Believe me, that's a tougher prejudice to get past than you'll ever know.

Ditto, he observed with a keen eye. It's funny also how he pointed out the vortech and was like "ah, no good!"

How could I not? lol I was replaying it over and over in my mind how I should have had better responses why I got an auto.. don't think it would have mattered a lick of difference to him though
