From most people's experiences here
we have been able to get gear jobs done with a full install kit which includes bearings for about $550.00-$600.00

Before you say it... not being rude... not talking bad.
Gears cost about 189 bucks. Master install kit with bearings? 70 bucks.

Fact remains that $800.00 is way expensive bearing kit or not.
Good shop or not.
That price is not fooling many people here.

I bought my car a month after my birthday. And went to the shop in April of 06 when I was living in Richardson. The car had less than 2000 miles on it...I was told "about $800." I was kinda shocked and never went back. I got a quote here in Houston from a shop for $650 and that was ridiculous too.

Your math regarding the price is exactly why I was so appalled. Maybe I look like a dumbass and people think I don't know better. I have no idea.

600 is fine.
650 is getting expensive

800 is flat out ridiculous.

Yes it is and it is still lower than what a dealership will tell you it costs.

That place Gearheads changed out my cousin to 4.10s for $450 bucks in 3 hours. Dropped it off in the morning and picked it up at lunch.....on a Saturday. I was blown away. I thought he was doing something illegal.

Only real experience I had with them but was pretty shocked at the price and speed.

Yes I get it. You were beating around the bush instead of flat out saying I was a liar.

HOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLD on now...

I am not saying anything about either of you guys.
The shop nor the customer.

I am just saying that IF some place was charging 800 for it
that that is way expensive and that most people on the forum
would not fall for that price even with a place that had the SOLIDEST of reputations.

Don't want either of you to misunderstand me.
