Boost numbers mean jack ****. Other than how restricted the engine is. Look at the power output or even better, the ETs.

Remember this, people are boosting the Camaro SS all the time. The LS3 has a compression ratio of 10.8:1 (with the L99 pretty damn close to that). Don't worry about the high compression. These aren't pushrod engines of the 60s (which I still like the best personally, lol).

The 5.0 with a VERY conservative tune that's been in the works for literally years with a whipple at 7 psi will make 600hp which will be perfectly safe. Try making that at 7 psi on the 3v with an equally safe tune. 5.0 = win.

I am not following you here, can you explain a couple things. How do boost numbers not mean jack? Why would a motor without pushrods be less prone to detonation? How has whipple been testing on the 5.0 for years, hasn't the 5.0 only been in developement for a couple years?

I like it "naked" as well. With the plast on it, it looks like a BMW or an Audi or Benz under the hood. Not very "American Muscle" to me...

But damn. That kit is nice. I'd love to see some numbers. As far as handling the same boost as a 4.6, I don't think thats the case? 11:1 CR won't handle boost like the 4.6 9.8:1 ratio

How do boost numbers not mean anything?? To back it up, you say a 5.0 at 7psi will trump a 4.6 at 7psi. Well, sure displacement will win in the long run, but if I up the boost in the 4.6 to say 10psi, then I guess the boost numbers do matter because the 4.6 now becomes a contender to the 5.0s 7psi.

And yes, compression ratio does still matter, even on a modular motor. At 11:1, the amount of boost the motor can handle is greatly reduced compared to the 9.8:1. Sure you can boost the 5.0 but what is the safe level? 7psi? 8psi? We don't really know yet what the stock internals can handle, but I bet we soon find out when we get guys trying to boost 10psi on these.
