I have a 2008 convertible and my big suitcase, similar to yours dimensions, will fit, but it can be a very tight fit. I'd advise bringing some soft luggage.
Also you might try to bring one of those adapters to plug your mP3 player into the Mustangs input jack! I loved having my tunes with me while on vacation, even though it was just a V6!

The trunk is not an exact rectangle or oval, so the exact measurements are as follows:

At it's widest point (driver side to passenger side) is: 103 cm
Narrowest point (driver side to passenger side) is: 66 cm
From top (from back window) to bottom (bumper) or is 40 cm
Depth is: 85 cm

Thanks. The mp3 thing is a good tip too, since my iPod with 10.000 songs on it will be a good companion on this road trip

Thanks! The "soft" suitcase is on the way and by the looks of it, our hand luggage softcase will also fit in there

Two years ago my wife, 14 yr. old daughter and I did a two week vacation through Colorado in my '07 GT Convert., including a four day country music festival.

We each had a soft bag with 6 days of clothes, dirty clothes went into a plastic trash bag each day. When we stopped for a two-night stay, we dropped the dirty clothes at a laundry the first morning, then picked up the clean, pressed and folded clothes late the next morning. If you want to do your own laundry, most hotels will have coin machines that you can use.

It was much easier than trying to pack two weeks worth of clothes into a Mustang.

We made a couple of large item purchases (art) that I had shipped from the merchant to my office, so we did not have to try to fit them in the car for the rest of the trip.

I hope that you have a really good trip, a convertible with the top down is the best way to see the mountains and scenery in the western states.

Well, the trip is over and we had an awesome time!! The Mustang was a wonderful car to explore a wonderful part of the world with

Thanks for all the tips. The soft cased Samsonite fit perfectly and there was even room for some small extra bags we picked up along the trip. Here are some pictures:
