I don't think that is necessarily true, I had an '06 and it never had water leak issues with 41K miles on it.

If I have 28,000 miles on my 2009 and have no water leak at this point, is it likely to begin at some later date, or am I in the clear?

EDIT: Car gets driven daily (even in hard rain) and is parked outside except for at work...
Mine leaks on occasion.. which is odd. I have checked for possible drainage clogs but have not been able to pull the fender to check there. So far I have not detected any wetness in the passenger area as of late. I do begin to think that the grommets do fail over time and leaks are possibilities.

The grommets can be checked for proper installation from inside the cabin
without the need to pull the fenders. If you are a Chinese acrobat....
