Default Which Mustang GT is better to buy? 05, 06, 07, 08, or 09?

In a year and something days, I'm planning to buy a Mustang GT. I'm just wondering which year from the 05-09 generation would be best to buy? The 05, 06, 07, 08, or 09. Also what is the difference between the California Special GT and the Normal GT? If I am able to buy this, this would be my first car btw? Has anyone here had a mustang gt for there first car?

On my 3rd GT. I had a 2001 GT, 2005 GT and my current one is a 2008 GT Steeda Q350.

The years you mentioned have some minor differences with the engine but it is relatively minor. I would suggest finding the best deal for the best buck in that range.

GT's come in 2 major varieties for both Coup and Convertibles - GT and GT Premium. Which are all cosmetic and options differences. Options are different for each year. Like some had different gears available and obviously Auto Trans vs. Manual Trans.

My buddy has a 07 CS/GT - White. Very sharp car. It is primarily cosmetics (front/rear bumpers, etc), although I know he has a CAI. Not sure it is stock or after market. I am sure one of the CS owners will be along to give you more details on what is standard with the CS.

Good Luck and let us know what you end up with!!!

i just recently bought my first car, this '06 mustang gt premium and i have loved every minute of it. i went with this car b/c it had lower miles than the newer models in the same price range and better features...its all what you're willing to pay and what options you want. as for the cali special, there are plenty of owners on this site that should be able to help you out more than i could.

My vote would go for the 07-08's. Ford fixed the spark plug problems of the 05-06 and doesn't have the CMCV's permanently attached to the manifold that the 09's have. We do get to deal with the TPMS bullcrap that the 05's didn't have to, but that's about it.

its splitting hairs when it comes to 05-09 cars, they are pretty much all the same, especially the drive trains...

I agree with find the best price on the best cars. Differences are minor such as suspension retuning but they all suck so expect to replace it anyway.

The 08-09 have the mp3 jack in the center console, tpms, and the fuel tank filling issue and spark plug issue "fixed". The gt/cs is just a gt premium with special front bumper, gt500 rear bumper, side scoops, side stripes and two-tone interior.

Whatever the price is! Expect to find some little issues here and there in particular the 2005 your gauge stepper motors will die and they will need to be replaced.

I think the best value you can get in the 05-09 range, and if you can get it for a good price, would be the Bullitt.

It offers so much for next to nothing extra. IE, FFRP Handling Package, 3.73 gears, Nice Steering wheel, etc. If you look at those prices for those items, and then add them to the price of your 05-09... you'd be surprised at the value. For those who got the Bullitt for 27k, as I know some did... Kudos, you got an amazing deal.

Many years later, and the introduction of the 5.0, and soon Boss, these earlier models will lose value (or I could be wrong... ) but I know if I had a Bullitt, and had a chance and willing desire to jump on getting a newer more powerful model I most likely would.

However, I haven't had many problems with my 06. It had to have the fuel pump replaced per TSB, and the engine/transmission seperator replaced due to loud pinging noise (not engine related), per tsb. Other than that, it's been gas and gos, and regular maintenance. I recently had to replace the battery after almost 5 years. Sitting out in the florida heat and not being used (deployed to Iraq).

Haven't had any water leaks or anything else to speak of. I know the 07+ offered a few more features than my 06 did though. It all depends on what you want, which is gonna give you the best price. By the way I have less than 38,000 miles.

IMO, if it doesn't leak water, doesn't have a check engine light lit up on the dash, and has good rubber on the tires! Any year will do! Your smile wont go away for a long time!
