Winter Tires for new Mustang GT 2011
Hi,
So my Mustang is finally on order, I was just wondering what people here recommend in terms of winter tires and rims for the 2011 Mustang GT. I didn't get the Brembo brake package, but I'm concerned that anything less than stock 18" wheels will have trouble fitting over the brake calipers.
What do people recommend? I don't want to spend too much especially on the rims so I'm thinking 17" rims or something off an old Mustang GT on craigslist for about $500. Is that reasonable?
With winter tires, how is the car? Some of the threads mentioning putting weight in the trunk. I'm not sure if that'd be necessary in Vancouver weather? It snows here 2-3 times a year, and not much (e.g. olympics, though the year before that we had a LOT of snow).
Thanks

It must be getting cooler up north since this type of thread has been popping up (again and again) the past few weeks.
The Stang is minimally tolerable with the right tires and weight in the trunk. Since you seem intent on a dedicated winter tire and wheel set, then most any dedicated winter tire should do, although for the sake of 2-3 snowfalls, you may want to just add weight in the trunk and stick with the stock tires, get a ride or just stay home. Go on the tirerack website and look at their tire comparisons. As far as diameter, as long as you maintain the same overall tire O.D., 17" or 18" will suffice. I'm not positive about the '11s but I'll put money that a 17" wheel will clear your brakes.

Thanks for the advice!
Yeah, rain season has started - we've lost our awesome sunshine >_<.
That's true. It's just that once it snows, the snow just sort of sticks around for a few days or weeks because it's still cold, just not snowing.
Yah I read somewhere the brake discs are 0.8" larger on the 2011s. I guess that means there's not much of a chance 16" rims would clear.
