Default Transmission going out?

Hi everyone,
I got about 46k miles on my Stang now and so far I haven't had any problems. Once in a while it'd shift a little rough from first to second, which was going on with this car for as long as I've been driving it I believe, but other than that no problems. Today I drove that car for about 4 hours in traffic and about 3 or 4 times it sort of lagged when shifting into 2nd gear-- rpm would go up but it would not engage for about half a second of so and then I felt this somewhat hard kick. Does it sound like my transmission is going out or maybe I just need to replace fluid? If it's the tranny does anyone know where I can buy a new one for a good price. I found one by TCI for 3k shipped, but that's 3500 installed and it's a little more than I'd expect to pay for a Ford transmission... that sounds more like a Viper price to me to be honest. If it's the tranny and I can't work this out for under 3k total I'm gonna have to go with the new 5.0 which is a b**** for me to afford at this time

Wow.
This description immediately says one thing to me.
GET THE CAR TO A SHOP.

There are a variety of things that could cause this.
BTW from 1st to 2nd? Your sig says you have an auto...

The shifts in an automatic can be felt. This isn't a CVT. Sounds as though the transmission may be slipping.

Replace the fluid and filter first. It may help. Low fluid can cause slippage and delayed shifts.

Just like art161 said shifts can be felt... and seen on the tach. But this coming Monday I'll try to get the fluid and filter changed and see what the outcome is going to be. Hopefully that's all it needs...

An 06 with 46k miles may still be under the factory powertrain warranty. You have the 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty on it, correct? That should cover the transmission slipping. Just a thought, the warranty may only be on newer cars though.

Should have bought a standard! But try talking to a local tranny shop. I am sure they can rebuild the trans for much less than 3k. I had the trans rebuilt from the ground up in my ram 1500 and it was only $650 with them taking the trans out and puting it back in. It was about a 3 day turn around. Plus you get to romp on the car and if the tranny goes out again, then take it back to the shop and if they are a reputable shop, they will cover it under warranty.

+1

I'd try that first before doing anything drastic. That, or a tranny leak will easily cause the situation you described.
