Contact paper for road trip?
Has anyone used clear contact paper to avoid rock chips on a long road trip?
I did a search and apparently it's been used before. It is much stronger than blue/green painter's tape (it's almost as thick/strong as that 3M clearbra stuff but it's opaque) but has the same level of adhesive. I'm gonna try it for a cross country trip. It'll definitely stop rocks/bugs. I also tried putting some of it on the paint for a week and it came off with no residue.

I can tell you hand scrubbing a coating of bugs is NOT fun. Not to mention I had a butterfly stuck to my passenger Roush vent and a grasshopper stuck to my driver side Roush vent and it took some prying to get off. Oh and a butterfly was cooking on my radiator.
As for contact paper.. no idea..

Contact paper is basically the stuff you line shelves with. You can buy it clear, and it's quite durable, with a low adhesive so it can be removable. I don't know if you'd want to leave it on for months or anything, but it should make a good "poor man's clear bra" for a cross country trip.

Try it and see. Seems like you're already sold.
I've made a lot of long distance trips in the Stang (about 90% or more of the 36,000 miles are trips of 400 or more one-way miles and she's not my DD) and I DO have about 5 or 6 rock chips that pain me everytime I wash her.
