Welcome to the ranks of five-oh! This ain't your daddy's 5.0 of the classic Fox bodies, it is a totally new beast, and there is so much more to be pulled out of this new power plant!
Ford purposefully gave the '11 5.0 room to grow , and because of that, there is so much taht will eventully come out that makes this engine a real beast!
Supercharging, forged conrods, dished pistons, and direct injection are some of the tricks that Ford will put STOCK on this engine in later year models.
Heck, Shelby already already pulling over 600 crank BHP out of this engine!

I'm glad you were honest about your first impressions of the 2011.
I have put all the needed upgrades on my 06' knowing when we bought them they were still reasonably light, even after Supercharging, spending money on losing weight in front and rotating masses to compensate, fit out chassis stiffening and full suspension, and big brakes. With 460rwhp, and not being a drag racer, my car comes in still at only at 3450 or so with 530 flywheel HP, I've had more HP, but it's not usable on the street.
I've driven a fully fit out 5.0, and for coming from the factory like that, weighing in at 3630lbs and the N/A power potential for the engine, it's a great car. My 06' really has amazing performance now, and it would be hard to match, but I and others had to spend all that time and money to get here.
I must say that I agree though, a properly fit out 05 GT with suspension, brakes, 3:73 gears and better breathing and a 93 octane tune, is a mighty close match for the current stock 2011 from my experience. Erik

And there is more to come just from Ford themselves: Namely direct injection heads! I can't wait for those, and I think I will begin to set aside around $4k-$5K so that when they do come out and are available through FRPP as an upgrade, I can buy 'em!
Just imagine all the upgrades and tunes mixed in with direct injection will do!
