Default Bummed that Ethanol in gas may go to 15%

Here's the story on NPR:

I guess our MPGs will dive further with this. I am still getting ethanol free gas from a couple of local gas stations in my area. My car seems to run ok with ethanol. Just gets worse fuel economy. I'm from Virginia. Am currently on a trip to Florida-Georgia, then back home. Will post difference in MPGs and speeds I drove on the trip when I get home.

Yes, I have a GT and monitor my MPGs.

There are pros and cons of the added content. If the fuel becomes cheaper to account for the reduction in MPG, it won't be a big deal. Of course, we know that won't happen so it becomes a con. IIRC, people run increased amounts of Ethanol to increase octane ratings. This could lead to more aggressive engine tuning and more power. Who knows what will happen, guess we have to wait and see. I can't find a station in my town that doesn't have a "May contain up to 10% ethanol" sticker on the pump.

I've kept strict mileage records on my vehicles for over 32 years. I made trips of 400 miles one-way every 2 weeks from the time I bought my Stang in June of '07 until June of '09 and used fuel from the same gas stations at each fill-up, ran the cruise control at 70 MPH each time. I keep close tabs on weather conditions and other variables that can cause changes in fuel mileage and on numerous occasions I'd see drops in my average of as much as 4 MPG on a few occassions that I HAVE to attribute to the quality of the fuel/% ethanol since the gas stations could be buying fuel with no ethanol one time they fill their tanks and 10% or more the next.

I want to poke someones eyes out over this latest round of consumer fleecing.

Some proponents of using ethanol hasten to point out the octane rating of ethanol is higher. I heard one such idiot call gasoline with ethanol is a "performance fuel". What they don't tell you is that ethanol contains a lot less energy per pound than gasoline. This is why your MPG goes down on gasahol.
Liars figure, but figures don't lie.

E85 is cheaper but it takes more to go the same distance than the real deal.
So the cost balances out. Go figure.

Besides the S197 was not designed to burn 10% Ethanol little lone the 15% carp.

Straight from wikipedia: One liter of ethanol contain 21.1 MJ, a liter of methanol 15.8 MJ and a liter of gasoline approximately 32.6 MJ. In other words, for the same energy content as one liter or one gallon of gasoline, one needs 1.6 liters/gallons of ethanol and 2.1 liters/gallons of methanol. Although actual fuel consumption doesn't increase as much as energy content numbers indicate... it also says that ethanol corrodes metals in your fuel delivery system and breaks down plastic and rubber. That is just at 10% ethanol...This just sucks. (MJ = MegaJoule)

I said this in another thread somewhere on the net, I cannot remember if I said it here on MF already or if it was on a different Mustang Fan site. But I said:

"E15? Is that why gasoline is now up 20cents per gallon?
