Default 20's versus 18's for street?

Okay guys, I know this has been covered on here. I did a search but really most poeple were talking about performance differences in the wheels.

My question is more about daily driving.

I am running 20's now with 255/35R20 Front and 285/30R20 Rear.

I like the look, but the car rides like sh*t! It was fine when the car was more of a garage queen, but now I am driving it daily.

I am seriously considering changing to 18's for a better ride. I am not concerened about track days as I don't do any.

Will the 18's make the ride significantly better or is it not really worth the expense? Also, what size tire combo should I be running on the 18's?

Is there a better size tire combo for the 20's that will fit and make the ride better?

I appreciate any help. I have got to soften this thing a bit as it is beating the hell out of me!

Your gonna want 18's if you think your car rides bad with 20's........

Gonna echo the sentiment and say get the 18s. The ride is softer and less aggressive which I prefer since I actually use my car as a primary vehicle. My other toy will get the 20s when I get it.

Yep you need to get the 18's.
Plus it will get some weight off that bitch.

More rubber less wheel is better for the ride too.
Oh yeah... and it makes the car actually look like a muscle car should too lol.

I have the SVT GT500 (05-09) they're 18x9.5 with 255/45's as I like to rotate my tires. If you want to go staggered depending on which brand of tire you go with, you can put 285's on the rear, which is what I'll do when I don't drive it as much.

As for the 20's I can't suggest anything there.

Go with 18s. They will give you a better ride AND look better. I have a similar dilemma. I have 19s on my '11 GT/CS and want to get some new wheels. There is nothing out there in a 19 that I really like so I am stuck choosing between going smaller or bigger. I think I am going to go with 18s though and get a staggered set of chrome FR500s off of Cruizin Concepts.

I have the GT500 takeoffs with 255 in front and 285 in rear. Rides softer than the stock 17's. I love it. Traction and comfort.

Thank you all. I will go with the 18's.

What is the best tire size to use? I want to stagger. I have 255/35R20's in front and 285/30R20's in rear now.

What is the best with 18's to get the right sidewall, profile, looks, etc.

Thanks!

The extra inch or so of sidewall in the various common 18" sizes is something you'll notice. Separate from that, you won't have to "overinflate" them just to help avoid getting pinch flats and bent wheels.
