Default 2011 5.0 fossil, blend or synthetic oil?

I see the new 5.0 takes 8 quarts of oil and is a recommended 10,000 mile change interval. Being an old fogey stogey which equates to old school, I still change oil at 3,000 to 3,500 miles with a new filter. I don't use synthetic oil, just have the dealer do the oil change on both daily drivers which is with fossil oil. I'm planning on getting a 2011 GT Premium and am wondering how you 2011 GT owners feel about the 10,000 mile interval and do you use fossil, blend or synthetic oil?

Oil and filter technology has come such a long way that the 3 month/3000 mile is more a mechanism of profit than engine longevity. Go with synthetic and 10000 miles.

I, too, am an old fogey from the 3,000 mile dino oil/filter change regime but have training in oil analysis. I currently run full synthetic in both my '07 Stang and my tow vehicle (SUV). The stang is on a 10,000 mile or 1 year frequency. The SUV, because of hauling the boat frequently, is on an 8,000 mile frequency. I've had other vehicles go well into the 200,000 mile zone with no issues using full syn at a 10,000 mile change frequency. I'd go 15,000 but not quite there yet.

When can you switch to synthetic oil if the new Mustant GT has fossil or blend in the engine when I get it?

It has synthetic from the get go. You can switch whenever you please.

As long as you change the oil on the proper interval for the oil type, and use a good filter, you'll never know the difference IMHO. If I were doing 10k mile intervals, I'd use full synthetic for sure. If you must do the 3k, then just use dino and save yourself some money...

I have the 2011 gt 5.0 and I did my first oil change at 1100 miles and will do it approximatley every 3000-5000 with full synthetic.

The first one makes some sense at 1000-1500 perhaps. I agree changing synthetic 3000-5000 miles in is a waste of money...

Agreed, waste of maoney. If you're changing it at less than 7000 miles, then a blend is all you need.
