Passenger side cabin leak FIXED!!!
 

A few days ago we had a really bad rain storm. The next day when I took the car out, water started gushing out from under the glove compartment box. I'd say that about a cup of water came out and got my floor mat as well as the carpeting under it wet. A little after, I washed my car to see if the same problem would happen and once again it did. After looking around and removing the bottom of the windshield plastic drain covers, I saw about a gallon of water in the drain. The drain was obviously clogged up and all that water was coming in though the cabin air filter.

There are 2 drain holes that can get clogged up, one on the driver said and one on the passenger side. Now I know that getting to them and cleaning them out is super quick and easy. Below are a few pics showing you how to get to them so that you don't run into the same leak problem like I did. Definitely check them once in a while to make sure that leaves or other things don't clog them up.

Passenger side drain hole: It is hard to see where it is exactly but it is a small black rubber piece about 2" in width all the way in the back.

Thanx for the heads up on how to fix the problem...and took time to take some pics, that's really looking out for us..I'm a NYC guy myself and know all about the recent heavy rains, thankfully I haven't had this, but it's good to know how to fix it if it happens to me...Thanx again

I cut the bottoms off those things long ago...the garbage cant get hung up as easy and flows through...that is if I ever allow my cars to get wet...:)

When mine started leaking it was raining like hell. Lucky me, I didnt drive the car for week the first time it started to leak. When I finally got back in the car, there was about 2" of standing water in the front and rear passenger floorboard.

People have posted this before but it's good for the newbs that haven't seen it. HOWEVER, be advised that this is NOT the cause of the infamous water leak described in the water leak TSB.

And its also been noted that those rubber one way drain grommets
are one way to help keep the dangerous, odorless Carbon Monoxide
out of the air plenum area and away from the fresh air intake.
Cutting them off or removing them is just plain stupid.
Do you really think Ford put them there for no other reason than
to get clogged up and cause trapped water to infiltrate the cabin
area via the cabin air filter.... :(

Hold on, it just struck me. Passing water thru the filter is more likely by DESIGN than a design flaw. That way, the filter is... SELF CLEANING!

Had a huge rainstorm today. Was dry until I started driving, then it streamed out into the passenger footwell. Apparently it pools up somewhere in my case and the momentum of the car causes it to gush in.

It takes a dose of 800 ppm of Carbon Monoxide with an exposure time of 45 mins to be lethal...now that would be one hell of an exhaust leak!! Considering the entire exhaust output has about 100-150 ppm... I will take my chances...but thats just me...

However, it takes less than that to begin impairing brain function and put the driver, and other drivers on the road at risk. Anything above 100ppm can be hazardous to your health. I think they (Ford) wanted to err on the side of caution. Over time, the Carbon Monoxide could build up resulting in much greater density than 100-150. Otherwise, you'd never be able to off yourself off your own exhaust fumes.

Side note: A car puts out 100-200ppm at the end of the exhaust. Should there be an exhaust leak, the PPM is MUCH higher. Like 7000 ppm.
