HELP! Weird hair like stuff coming out of my exhaust!!!

I have a 2006 v6 with true dual exhaust and on the driver side there is a wied hair like material that keeps coming out of my muffler. I pulled it and got about 20 ft of the stuff out. It is brown and black, and feels kind of like fiber glass. Can some one please tell my what this stuff is and how to fix it?

Do you have cats on your car?

Hmm I could be wrong, but anybody think that this might be the insulation in the muffler? I think somehow the material supposed to moderate the sound coming from your car somehow wasn't well secured inside of the muffler and as a result is now coming out of your tailpipe.

I'd figure the only way to completely fix this would be talking to the muffler manufacturer and asking them about a replacement, certainly no way of just cramming it back into place or something without ripping the whole muffler open

Your car is going through puberty, soon the sound of your exhaust will change to a deeper note.

Yea I have two cats on my car. And my dad said that more than likely it is some kind of material used to silence the exhaust but he wasnt sure.

Obviously what's coming out is cat fur.

Its insulation material, just buy a new muffler...

Id say you have the deadening material in the mufflers breaking up.

Time for new mufflers.
Good excuse for you to go ahead and get dual exhaust!
